Floating Eagle” is a remotely controlled boat designed to perform bathymetric survey using side imaging sonar. Bathymetric survey is used to map the river and lake beds, which are then ingested into topographic surveys to improve hydrologic and hydraulic models. As a part of CEE 4420/5420 Engineering Hydrology Course, four Civil & Environmental Students: Mitchell, Will, Austin and Daniel performed bathymetric survey of City Lake, in the city of Cookeville. They used a Sonar device from Dr. Thanos Papanicolaou's Hydraulics and Sedimentation Lab at UT-Knoxville. A YouTube video of their exercise can be seen below.
